Summary
In 1895 Georges Picquart, newly promoted to run the French army's counter-intelligence section, inherits the file on Alfred Dreyfus — the Jewish artillery captain he watched being stripped of his rank and shipped to Devil's Island for passing secrets to Germany. Working through material that crosses his desk, Picquart concludes that the handwriting on the incriminating document belongs to another serving officer, Major Esterhazy, and that his superiors would rather bury the finding than reopen the case. Roman Polanski's French-language adaptation of Robert Harris's novel casts Jean Dujardin as Picquart and Louis Garrel as Dreyfus, and follows Picquart's attempt to force the army to admit its error.
