Summary
Dr. Mabuse, the hypnotist and criminal mastermind, sits mute in a Berlin asylum filling notebook after notebook with detailed schemes for arson, counterfeiting and sabotage, watched over by his increasingly fascinated psychiatrist, Professor Baum. Outside the walls, a gang carries out those exact crimes on instructions from a leader who speaks to them only from behind a curtain. Inspector Lohmann, the police detective from Lang's M, works the case from a former officer who was driven insane before he could deliver what he knew, while a gang member named Kent tries to get out for the sake of the woman he loves. Fritz Lang's German crime thriller, the second Mabuse film, was banned by the new Nazi government on release.
