Summary
In William Goldman's adaptation of his own novel, a grandfather reads a bedside storybook to his flu-ridden grandson, and the tale unfolds onscreen: in the kingdom of Florin, the farm girl Buttercup loses her true love Westley to the Dread Pirate Roberts and is betrothed against her will to Prince Humperdinck. Kidnapped by the Sicilian schemer Vizzini and his hired men, the swordsman Inigo Montoya and the giant Fezzik, she is pursued across cliffs and swamps by a masked man in black. Rob Reiner's fantasy adventure alternates fencing, giants and torture chambers with the grandson's interruptions from the present day.
