Summary
Chronicles the early days of the U.S. space program, beginning with test pilot Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier and following the seven Mercury astronauts selected to ride America's first manned rockets. The film contrasts the quiet bravery of Yeager with the public spectacle surrounding the new astronaut heroes as they train, endure brutal selection tests, and push the boundaries of flight.
