Summary
Adapted from Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Stories, this British historical drama follows Uhtred, son of the Saxon lord of Bebbanburg in ninth-century Northumbria, who is captured as a boy during a Danish raid and raised by the Viking warrior Ragnar. Grown, he is a man of divided loyalties: born a Saxon, bred a Dane, and dispossessed of his birthright by a treacherous uncle. As the Danish armies overrun the English kingdoms, he is drawn into the service of Alfred of Wessex, a pious and sickly king with a vision of a single English realm. The series tracks Uhtred's oath-bound campaigns against the Danes alongside his long attempt to take Bebbanburg back.
