Summary
In a post-apocalyptic Britain overrun by fungal-infected 'hungries,' a group of second-generation infected children retain their intelligence and are studied at a military base. When the base is overrun, a gifted young girl named Melanie escapes with her teacher, a scientist, and a few soldiers, navigating the ruined world while the scientist searches for a cure.
