Summary
Two-part television drama based on Flora Rheta Schreiber's book about a psychiatric case. Sally Field plays Sybil Dorsett, a withdrawn young substitute art teacher in New York who loses hours at a time and comes to in places she cannot account for, with objects and injuries she cannot explain. Joanne Woodward is Dr. Cornelia Wilbur, the analyst who takes her on and gradually meets a series of distinct personalities speaking through her, each with its own name, voice and age. The treatment turns on recovering what happened during Sybil's rural childhood at the hands of her mother, Hattie, which she has no conscious memory of.
