Summary
Austrian mountaineer Heinrich Harrer leaves his pregnant wife to join a 1939 Himalayan expedition, but the outbreak of World War II lands him in a British POW camp in India. After escaping across the mountains, he reaches the forbidden city of Lhasa, where an unlikely friendship with the young Dalai Lama transforms him just as the Chinese invasion threatens Tibet's way of life.
