Summary
Wrongly convicted of murder, safecracker Henri 'Papillon' Charriere is sentenced to life in the brutal French penal colony of French Guiana. He forms an unlikely friendship with timid counterfeiter Louis Dega, who funds escape attempts in exchange for protection.
