Summary
An aging, curmudgeonly retired professor and his warm-hearted wife return to their lakeside summer cottage in Maine, where their estranged adult daughter arrives with her fiance and his young son. As the boy is left in the couple's care for the summer, an unlikely bond forms between the gruff old man and the teenager, prompting long-overdue reckonings with mortality, family resentment, and reconciliation.
Released in 1981, On Golden Pond is a drama film.
Rotten Tomatoes carries a separate audience for the same title, 814 of whom clear the calibration test. The calibrated figure is built from 137 of its IMDb reviewers. A broader pool of 139 reviewers with two or more reviews feeds the raw-average track instead. Its in-cohort standing is measured against the other 3,140 1980s films, not against the whole corpus.
