Summary
Bobby Dupea, a gifted classical pianist turned oil rigger, drifts through a working-class life with his waitress girlfriend Rayette, hiding his cultured upbringing. When he learns his father is gravely ill, he reluctantly returns to his family's home in the Pacific Northwest, where his attempt to reconnect forces him to confront his rootlessness and inability to belong anywhere.
