Summary
Filip Mosz, a purchasing clerk in a small Polish factory town, buys an 8mm camera to film his newborn daughter, and his manager immediately drafts him into shooting the plant's anniversary celebration. The footage wins a prize at an amateur film festival, and Filip begins pointing the camera at everything around him — the town, the factory, a colleague with dwarfism — as further commissions and television interest arrive. What he records starts to carry consequences for the people in front of the lens and for the officials above him, while his wife Irka watches filmmaking swallow the marriage. Krzysztof Kieślowski directed, with Jerzy Stuhr as Filip, in a drama about censorship and what an amateur owes his subjects.
