Summary
A British crime series set in the present-day East End police division that once handled the Ripper murders. Detective Inspector Joseph Chandler, an immaculate, fast-tracked officer with no homicide experience, is handed his first murder case along with the resentment of a squad led by the seen-it-all DS Ray Miles. Working with Edward Buchan, a self-taught Ripperologist who runs local crime tours, Chandler comes to believe the killings are being staged to reproduce a historical case, and that the pattern predicts what happens next. Later series apply the same premise to other crimes out of London's past, with Chandler's fastidiousness and Miles's scepticism as the fixed points.
