Summary
Three ambitious young women - aspiring singer Neely O'Hara, New England beauty Anne Welles, and fragile starlet Jennifer North - chase fame in New York and Hollywood show business. As their careers rise and falter, each woman becomes increasingly dependent on the pills ('dolls') they use to cope with the pressures of stardom, love, and loss.
