Summary
An idealistic engineer, unable to find work in his field, takes a teaching job at a rough East End London school where he is assigned a class of unruly working-class teenagers on the verge of graduation. Abandoning the standard curriculum, he treats them as young adults and tries to prepare them for the realities of adult life, slowly earning their respect.
