Summary
When a fierce dust storm forces his crew to evacuate Mars and leave him behind, astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead and stranded alone on the hostile planet. Drawing on his botany and engineering skills, he must improvise ways to grow food, signal Earth, and survive long enough for a rescue mission while NASA and his returning crewmates race to bring him home.
