Summary
In 1970s Kabul, Amir, the son of a wealthy man, forms a deep friendship with Hassan, the son of his father's servant. After a traumatic incident of betrayal during a kite-fighting tournament, Amir's life is upended by guilt and by the Soviet invasion that forces him and his father to flee to America. Years later, a call from an old family friend draws the adult Amir back toward Taliban-ruled Afghanistan for a chance at redemption.
