Summary
On New Year's Eve in a French seaside town, Inspector Antoine Gallien calls Jérôme Martinaud, a wealthy and supercilious local notary, into the police station to clarify his statement about the rape and murder of two young girls. What is presented as a formality hardens into an all-night interrogation as Gallien and his blunter colleague pick at contradictions in Martinaud's account of his movements, and his wife Chantal is summoned to give evidence of her own. Claude Miller's adaptation of John Wainwright's novel Brainwash unfolds almost entirely inside the station over a single night, driven by Lino Ventura and Michel Serrault as interrogator and suspect.
