Summary
On death row in a 1930s Southern prison, head guard Paul Edgecomb oversees the arrival of John Coffey, a towering Black inmate convicted of murdering two young girls. As Paul and his fellow guards spend time with the gentle, soft-spoken Coffey, they discover he possesses an extraordinary supernatural gift, forcing them to confront difficult questions about justice, mercy, and the nature of the men in their care.
