Summary
In a seemingly utopian society where emotion, memory, and individuality have been engineered away, a young man named Jonas is selected to inherit the community's suppressed memories from an aging mentor known as the Giver. As he experiences the full range of human history and feeling for the first time, Jonas begins to question the cost of his world's manufactured peace.
