Summary
In 1920s Copenhagen, painter Einar Wegener and his artist wife Gerda discover something unexpected when Einar poses in women's clothing for one of her portraits, awakening a long-suppressed identity as Lili Elbe. As Lili emerges, Gerda's career flourishes through her paintings of her, and the couple navigates a profound transformation that leads Lili to become one of the first known recipients of gender confirmation surgery.
