Summary
When escaped convict Bubber Reeves heads back to his Texas hometown, Sheriff Calder tries to bring him in safely while the town's wealthy patriarch, Bubber's restless wife, and a drunken mob of locals all spiral into paranoia and violence. Directed by Arthur Penn and starring Marlon Brando, Jane Fonda, and Robert Redford, the film builds toward a tense confrontation that exposes the town's hypocrisy and brutality.
