The Butler

Summary

Based on a true story, an African American man rises from a sharecropping childhood to serve as a White House butler under eight U.S. presidents, witnessing decades of political and civil rights history from the inside. His decorum at work contrasts with tensions at home, where his elder son's activism in the civil rights movement strains their relationship and forces him to reckon with his own role in the struggle.
