Summary
Ron Howard's documentary covers the Beatles strictly as a live band, from the Cavern Club and Hamburg through the world tours of 1963-66 to the last paying concert at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. Restored and largely unseen concert footage is set against the mechanics of touring itself: screaming that made the music inaudible, the refusal to play a segregated stadium in Jacksonville, the fallout from Lennon's remark about Christianity, and the pressure that pushed the group toward the studio.
