Summary
A washed-up player-coach of a struggling minor-league hockey team revives the franchise's fortunes by encouraging his roster, especially the brawling Hanson brothers, to embrace goon-style violence on the ice. As wins and crowds pile up, he wrestles with the cost of trading the sport's integrity for survival, while navigating fraying marriages and rumors that the team is about to be folded.
Slap Shot is a 1977 comedy, drama and sport film. Its comedy subtype is Dramedy.
143 IMDb reviewers are calibrated for this title, and those are the ones the calibrated score reads; a separate, broader pool of 151 reviewers with at least two reviews each feeds the raw-average track. Its in-cohort standing is measured against the other 2,405 1970s films, not against the whole corpus. A second review pool sits behind it as well: 1,676 Rotten Tomatoes reviewers clear the same calibration test, and Rankquant scores them separately.
