Summary
Arthur Hamilton is a middle-aged Scarsdale banker whose job and marriage have hardened into routine, until a phone call from a friend he believed dead steers him to a clandestine outfit that manufactures new lives for wealthy clients. The company stages his death, rebuilds him surgically, and installs him in Malibu as Antiochus Wilson, a bachelor painter equipped with a fabricated past and a servant who reports back. Rock Hudson plays the reborn man in what is otherwise a paranoid science-fiction thriller, directed by John Frankenheimer and shot by James Wong Howe in wide-angle, high-contrast black-and-white that keeps the protagonist's world visually off-balance.
