Summary
In 1980s Harlem, an illiterate, overweight teenager named Claireece 'Precious' Jones endures severe abuse at home while pregnant with her second child. After being expelled from school, she enrolls in an alternative program where a dedicated teacher helps her begin to find her voice, confront her past, and imagine a future beyond her circumstances.
