Summary
Anne Elliot is persuaded to break her engagement to naval officer Captain Wentworth due to his modest prospects. Years later, when Wentworth returns as a successful Admiral, the two reencounter in Georgian society, and their long-suppressed feelings threaten to resurface amid family obligations and social expectations.
