Summary
During the Depression, small-time con man Moses Pray reluctantly agrees to escort a sharp-tongued nine-year-old orphan, Addie, across the Midwest after her mother's funeral. As they travel together selling Bibles to recent widows and running other small swindles, Addie proves to be a natural grifter herself, and an unlikely bond forms between the mismatched pair.
