Summary
Set inside the experimental Emerald City unit of the Oswald State Correctional Facility, this gritty HBO drama follows the inmates, guards, and administrators navigating violence, race and gang politics, drugs, and power struggles behind bars. Manager Tim McManus pushes a rehabilitation-focused model while factions of Aryans, Muslims, Latinos, Italians, gays, and others fight for control, narrated in part by wheelchair-bound inmate Augustus Hill.
Released in 1997, Oz is a crime, drama and thriller television series.
Its in-cohort standing is measured against the other 629 1990s television series, not against the whole corpus. A second review pool sits behind it as well: 16 Rotten Tomatoes reviewers clear the same calibration test, and Rankquant scores them separately. 120 IMDb reviewers are calibrated for this title, and those are the ones the calibrated score reads; a separate, broader pool of 125 reviewers with at least two reviews each feeds the raw-average track.
