Summary
Martin Mathias, a soft-spoken young man of about twenty, sedates a woman on an overnight train and opens her arm with a razor blade — no fangs, no fear of daylight, no patience for what he calls the magic. He arrives in the dying steel town of Braddock, Pennsylvania, to live with his elderly cousin Tateh Cuda, who greets him as 'Nosferatu,' hangs the house with garlic and crucifixes, and promises to destroy him once his soul is saved. Martin drifts through empty streets, starts an affair with a lonely housewife, and calls a late-night radio show that turns him into an on-air character, 'the Count.' George A. Romero's low-budget horror film leaves its black-and-white visions of old-world vampire hunts unresolved — memory or delusion.
