Summary
Set in Northern Ireland's Maze Prison in 1981, the film follows IRA prisoner Bobby Sands and his fellow inmates as they protest their treatment through the no-wash and blanket protests before escalating to a hunger strike. Steve McQueen's debut feature is anchored by a long, single-take conversation between Sands and a priest about the moral weight of his planned fast.
Released in 2008, Hunger is a biography, crime and drama film.
Its in-cohort standing is measured against the other 7,846 2000s films, not against the whole corpus. A second review pool sits behind it as well: 1,671 Rotten Tomatoes reviewers clear the same calibration test, and Rankquant scores them separately. 147 IMDb reviewers are calibrated for this title, and those are the ones the calibrated score reads; a separate, broader pool of 148 reviewers with at least two reviews each feeds the raw-average track.
