Summary
Based on Evan Wright's Rolling Stone reporting, this seven-part HBO miniseries from David Simon and Ed Burns embeds a journalist with the First Reconnaissance Battalion of the US Marine Corps during the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Riding in thinly armored Humvees at the tip of the advance are Sgt. Brad 'Iceman' Colbert, his motormouth driver Cpl. Josh Ray Person, and Lt. Nathaniel Fick, pushing north toward Baghdad on vague orders and missing equipment. Profane boredom alternates with sudden violence at checkpoints and in villages, and the running conflict is less with the enemy than with careerist officers whose decisions endanger civilians and Marines alike.
