Summary
In the Russian village of Anatevka in 1905, Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman, tries to uphold tradition while raising five daughters with his wife Golde. As his three eldest daughters each choose husbands in defiance of the matchmaker's customs, Tevye wrestles with faith and change against a backdrop of rising antisemitic persecution under the Tsar.
