Summary
In post-World War II Africa, a disillusioned former priest, Lankester Merrin, is hired to investigate a recently unearthed Byzantine church buried in the Kenyan desert. As strange and violent events plague the local village and British excavation team, Merrin confronts an ancient evil tied to the site and must reclaim his lost faith to face it.
