Summary
During the bubonic plague ravaging 14th-century England, a young monk named Osmund is ordered to guide a band of church-sanctioned soldiers, led by the envoy Ulric, to a remote marshland village rumored to be untouched by the pestilence. The group suspects the village's apparent immunity is the work of a necromancer, and their mission is to capture the supposed witch responsible. What they find tests the soldiers' faith and Osmund's conscience in brutal ways.
