Summary
In 1839, enslaved Africans aboard the Spanish ship La Amistad revolt and seize control, only to be captured off the U.S. coast and put on trial. As competing claims over their fate reach the Supreme Court, a young attorney and a former president take up their cause in a landmark battle over freedom and human rights.
Released in 1997, Amistad is a biography, drama and history film.
Its in-cohort standing is measured against the other 4,081 1990s films, not against the whole corpus. A second review pool sits behind it as well: 1,516 Rotten Tomatoes reviewers clear the same calibration test, and Rankquant scores them separately. 187 IMDb reviewers are calibrated for this title, and those are the ones the calibrated score reads; a separate, broader pool of 191 reviewers with at least two reviews each feeds the raw-average track.
