Summary

A private investigator is hired by a wealthy widow to determine whether a disturbing reel of film found in her late husband's safe is a genuine snuff movie. His search leads him deep into the underground world of hardcore pornography in Los Angeles and New York, where the line between performance and real violence grows dangerously thin.

8MM (1999) is a film IMDb files under the crime, drama and mystery genres.

Its in-cohort standing is measured against the other 4,081 1990s films, not against the whole corpus. Rotten Tomatoes carries a separate audience for the same title, 2,620 of whom clear the calibration test. The calibrated figure is built from 418 of its IMDb reviewers. A broader pool of 428 reviewers with two or more reviews feeds the raw-average track instead.
